Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

What makes StateMesh different from traditional computing platforms?
StateMesh is decentralized, offering freedom from centralized control, enhanced security, and scalable solutions without the limitations of traditional infrastructure.
What types of costs should I anticipate for operating my application?
With StateMesh, you pay solely for what you use. Unlike traditional cloud computing services, which often charge by the hour, you are billed by the minute. This approach allows you to avoid paying for an entire hour when you only need a few minutes, making StateMesh the most cost-effective choice for microservice workloads, serverless functions, and demand-driven computing.
How do I become an operator ?
You need a virtual machine sourced from another cloud or your own hardware. Simply create an account and register your machine on the Stat
What kind of rewards can I expect as an operator?
Rewards can be offered in USD, stablecoins, or ERC-20 tokens, depending on your preference. For a safer option, opt for USD or stablecoins. If you're willing to take on a moderate level of risk for potential gains, consider a mix of USD and ERC-20 tokens. For those seeking high risks and the possibility of substantial rewards, focusing solely on ERC-20 tokens is the way to go.
Is StateMesh secure?
Yes, StateMesh employs advanced cryptographic techniques to ensure a tamper-proof environment, safeguarding the integrity of all operations. Node operators don't have access to compute workloads, storage, secrets or network traffic. Everything is encrypted and stored safely.
What are Time Towers?
To promote fair participation without putting any financial strain on users, StateMesh takes a friendly approach by assessing a node's reliability based on how long it stays connected to the network. Every minute, each node shares a "proof of liveliness" with the StateMesh chain, showing it's online and active. These proofs are cleverly linked together, building up over time into a fascinating structure called a Time Tower! Node operators with highest towers are the most reliable, since they've spent the most time connected to the network.
What are Verifiable Delay Functions ?
Verifiable Delay Functions (VDFs) are amazing cryptographic constructs that ensure a specified computation time. StateMesh leverages VDFs to represent the passage of time for node operators. These functions generate a verifiable hash, which is recorded on-chain, demonstrating that an operator was online during the period in which the VDF was computed.
Does StateMesh operate its own blockchain?
Yes, StateMesh requires its own chain to manage gas costs associated with tracking network operations. Node operators submit transactions to the StateMesh chain every minute, which typically incur gas costs that would be the responsibility of the operators in a traditional blockchain setting. However, on the StateMesh chain, these gas costs are subsidized by the network and incorporated into the fees charged to customers. While a similar approach could be implemented through Account Abstraction on other chains, it would result in significantly higher costs and fees.
